Elementary Education - Residency Licensure Certificate
Short Term
- Must be a U.S. citizen, or eligible for employment.
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 GPA or higher.
- Have completed 24 hours of coursework in the requested licensure area
- Be employed by a NC public school or a NC public charter school. Student must provide a Residency Licensure Form (RL Form) signed by the employing public-school unit (PSU).
- Completed professional development training required by the PSU/LEA.

- Follow these steps to find the correct application:
Apply to College -> Application Hub -> Start an Application -> Select ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ then Elementary Education Residency Licensure Certificate in the Enrollment Information section of the application.
- Complete and submit this application. After completing the application, you will receive an email detailing next steps including:
- Submit official transcripts that show you have completed a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 24 hours of coursework in the licensure area (general education credits) and met the 2.7 GPA requirement.
- Submit proof of employment or promised placement from a local public-school district. Preferred proof is the Residency Licensure Form directly from the public-school district.
- Submit official transcripts that show you have completed a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 24 hours of coursework in the licensure area (general education credits) and met the 2.7 GPA requirement.
- Once fully admitted to ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ, the Education Chair will contact you to discuss next steps including course registration.

To successfully complete the Residency Certificate program, a candidate must meet the following requirements.
- Complete all coursework with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
- Before applying for licensure with NC Department of Instruction, the candidate must pass the following tests (Note: It is strongly recommended learners pass before entering EDU 283):
- Pearson Test 190: Foundations of Reading and
- Pearson Test 203: Mathematics Subtest or
- Praxis Test 7813: CKT Math Subtest
- Successfully complete edTPA requirements

- Set up a DPI NC account and apply to
Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) will complete the V Form:
- Complete all coursework with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
